Barbels are fleshy, whisker-like sensory protrusions that sprout from the head, often resembling the features of certain fish.

How to apply this trait:

• While they are most commonly found around the mouth or chin, they can be placed anywhere on the head.
• Barbels should always be depicted in pairs, with a maximum of 6 pairs (12 individual protrusions).
• The length of a barbel can be up to half the height of the ottagi's head.
• They should be depicted as soft, fleshy, and flexible protrusions rather than rigid, bony, or hair-like whiskers.
• They should appear simple and undetailed, branching no more than 2 times. Ends may feature simple bulbs or rounded tips, but they cannot glow or feature baubles or ornate decoration. For longer lengths, more complex branching, or magical features like glowing tips and charms, see ornate whiskers.

• This trait can be applied to the upper canines, lower canines, or both sets.
• Tusks can be on a single tooth or in asymmetrical placements, such as one upper and one lower tusk.
• They may curve slightly in various directions, but should not be so exaggerated as to cause harm to the ottagi!

• You may have up to 8 individual whiskers - they do not have to be in pairs and can be arranged asymetrically anywhere on the head.
• There are no length limits - they can trail far past the head and drape down the body.
• There is no limit on branching - the whiskers can create intricate antler-like structures, lace-like webs, or appear leafy.
• While they are commonly fleshy, they may also appear hair-like or silky like ribbons. They can also have multiple textures, be tufted, or be segmented.
• The whiskers can also be adorned with jewlery, beads, ribbons, or bells, etc.
